Wednesday I went to a surprise birthday party for a friend from church and had some good hang out time with those peeps.

Not really sure why they do this, but I've seen it at a couple other parties. Maybe they do it just because it's fun.
Like most Thursdays, this past one was my day off. I didn't have anything and so was able to have down time, catch up time, and just do some relaxing or walking or whatever I felt like.
Friday morning started with me attending the wedding of my host mom's best friend. It wasn't a typical Spanish wedding in two ways. One, it was just a little ceromony at the "courthouse" for a civil marriage, it lasted about an hour rather than the usual whole-day party than Spanish weddings normally are. Second, the couple has been together for twenty-five years and decided they might as well get married, so really they were just officializing what has been in existence for the past twenty years plus. But it was a fun time, and I especially enjoyed the "chocolate con churros" that we had afterwards.
English class went pretty well, I think partially because two of the more rowdy kids weren't there. I then stayed after class to help with some preparations for an event we were doing on Sunday. Helped wrap bible verses around 100 lollipops.
Saturday I spent the morning with the B. family in Madrid, which, as usual, was a good time. I then came back to Hoyo for worship practice before having the rest of the evening off.
Well, Sunday we had the event we were preparing for on Friday, El Día Internacional de Familia (The International Day of Family). There was a celebration of sorts in the main square where different businesses or groups set up booths and just had a general good time of family stuff. Our church had flyers and coloring books and lollipops and necklaces and face-painting and balloons. I mostly drew animals on balloons with the message "Cristo te ama" (Christ loves you) and I also did some face-painting on the kids. We had also originally planned to hand out desserts, but at the last moment we were informed that if the desserts weren't made in a certified/inspected kitchen we couldn't hand them out. So instead, we handed out invites to people inviting them to join us at church that evening for some desserts. From what I saw, I think a few people did show up for it :)
Monday rolled around with me rolling out of bed quite tired. But, nonetheless, I went for a four and a half hour walk with my host mom, the "newly weds" (who were leaving for Brazil on Tuesday), and my host uncle, in and around Hoyo's mountains and countryside. I was very tired and worn out afterwards, but alas, I was unable to take a siesta after lunch because I was going into Madrid that afternoon. But it was a good day anyways, even without the nap.
We climbed up to a lookout point that had this old house. I'm not sure who would live so far up and away from town, but it reminded me of the grandfather from Heidi.

On our way back down it started to hail, which was actually nice because it was better then having the predicted rain. It just lightly bounced off of everything instead of getting everything wet.
And then Tuesday. I got to sleep-in! Woo-hoo! I love sleep.
I had lunch with the K. family in Madrid and spent the afternoon having a blast with their adorable little baby boy. We get along real well, we're like best friends. Also, I got to go with K.K. to sing with the choir she directs. It was just for a fun visit, but I got to sing along and enjoy being a part of some group music. I've really missed that here in Spain.
Bonus: I finally got some pictures of Espaten, my host mom's restaurant. This reminds me, I really should just go out someday and photograph Hoyo and all it's little quirks.
And there you are, back up to speed. Have a great week.
With many Loves and Misses,
~Asher Fickett~
